The garage door safety sensors are the small sensors on either side of the garage door opening. The sensors are a very important part of the opener. The sensors tell the opener if something is in the way of the travel of the garage door. Openers made before 1993 did not have sensors. Openers that were made before 1993 only worked off of pressure. When the door hit something that caused a set amount of pressure the door would reverse. This was later determined not to be the best way o keep people and animals safe. When anything is blocking the sensors the door will not come down at all. If your opener does not have safety sensors you may want to replace it with a more modern and safer opener.
